Bee Swarm Information

We find that in Arizona the majority of our bee calls for pest bee swarms generally start late February or early March and will go through about September to October.

Because of the mild winters in Arizona, we do get bee calls about pest bees swarming all year long especially Africanized pest bees which tend to swarm more often than European bees.

A swarm of bees can be several thousand worker bees and oneTypical bee swarm that you will see before they go into the wall queen bee that all the female worker bees will try to protect if harassed.

A swarm of pest bees that you may see is in fact the old queen bee from another hive that has left that bee hive and taken some of the female workers with her to start a new hive.

The old queen left the bee hive to her offspring who becomes the new queen in the old bee hive, thereby preserving the original hive.

Bees will tend to swarm several weeks after a rain storm and after the flowers have had time to bloom in order to give the bees the best chance of survival once they set up a new hive in some hollow space or void largest enough to hold the hive and allow for some growth of that hive.

A feral bee swarm of pest bees that you may see are most likely just passing through as the old queen and worker bees are out looking for a new home. This swarm will generally move on in 24 - 72 hours as long as they are not getting into a wall void, soffit area, attic vent holes, shed floor or other hollow spaces.

Colonies of pest bees that have recently swarmed are generally docile at first, but over a short period of time may become much more defensive as time goes on and as they start to have something to defend like their bee hive. This swarm took about 8 minutes to form a I was treating a swarm 20 feet away

You need to have any colonies or hives around your home or business removed quickly as possible.

Be sure to keep any pets, children or neighbors away from the hive until it can be removed, even loud noises like a lawnmower can disturb the bees and has caused Africanized (killer) bees to attack.

DON'T WAIT > IF PEST BEES ARE GOING INTO SOME TYPE OF OPENING OR VOID THEY ARE NOT LEAVING !!
